RIP Ingrid Pitt

01:45 Nov 28 2010
Times Read: 674

That lovely seductress Ingrid Pitt has passed away. She is well known to Hammer fans for playing Carmilla in The Vampire Lovers, as well as the title role in Countess Dracula. This fascinating lady was not only a film actress, she was an accomplished stage performer as well, she was an author, beautiful in and out. She attended many fan conventions to recall her days with Hammer and was much beloved by fans for her saucy stories (referrring to her breasts as "tom and jerry"). She was overjoyed to become a grandma. She fought cancer bravely.

Ingrid had just turned 73. May your light shine forever bright. RIP.

She also did time in an internment camp as a child. I loved watching her in those movies, she was always so elegant.

Work N Stuff

00:59 Nov 16 2010
Times Read: 720

We put an ad in the paper last week to see if we could find someone who could work at our drop store. You'd think with the economy the way it is, people would be out job hunting especially with the holidays coming up...you'd think we'd get a bunch of people applying.

Well.

The ad we ran stated that we were looking for a shop assistant who would be willing to be cross trained in other areas of dry cleaning, who could work a set schedule during the week and two Saturdays a month. We listed the duties, aside from customer service and cash handling, keeping the store clean, running reports, assisting customers out to the car with clothes, answering questions, among other things. We ended with the remark: "This is not a sit-down job...you must be able to work on your feet!"

So. Among the winners who dropped off an application:

A young lady who advised us she had three kids and couldn't work the hours we had posted, nor could she work Saturdays either, but she still wanted the job.

A guy who used to work for the GM plant who started out by saying "I won't take any job that won't pay $18 an hour." (Piss off, you asswipe. WHERE are there jobs in this area that pay THAT?)

A Latina lady who spoke no English except to say "You pay cash, no?" NO.

A young guy who looked all right but proved he could not count change. Gave someone $20 too much because he wasn't paying attention to what the computer said he could give back. He also addressed each customer, regardless of sex, as "Dude."

A young lady who came to orientation dressed in a three sizes too small t shirt with "Juicy Couture" on the front, and jeans so tight I wondered if she buttered her thighs to get them on. We told her this was not acceptable attire and she pouted "That's all I have." well sorry, you can't wear that kind of thing here. Take your belly shirt and truck on down the road. Oh, and she was there ten minutes before inquiring when lunch was. FEH.

An older gentlemen who had no problem with the hours, wore appropriate neat clothes....then when he saw what he had to do (sort clothes, make an itemized receipt on the computer and tag the garments) announced "That's TOO HARD!"

Honestly. It ISN'T that hard. People in this area are looking for high paying jobs that require them to do little more than sit on their ass all day and tap a keyboard. Jobs that require physical labor, like my job, no one wants. Or, if they like the job, they won't do it unless they get paid a lot more. Dry cleaning isn't a business you get rich at, unless you own a chain or something. Little mom and pop shops like ours do great business, but you're working a lot. A lot of people don't like this.

The search goes on.

Fuuuuuu.........yeah. What you said. If I had a nickle for everytime I had to do the scut work at my job because the "younger" kids think it is beneath them to folow the rules, and seem to think their job is showing up, flirting, making cash tips, and leaving.....

I would still be cleaning up after their shitty little asses....

Too bad the commute is too far, I could use a second job.

Though I'm sure that I'd get fired. The first time someone shits on the ceiling anyplace I work... I'm rubbing their nose in it like a damn dog and tossing them out the door.

Oh gods, give ME the freakin job! I can't find one around here even though everyone is hiring. They keep telling me I have too much experience and need to do something with the skills the military gave me. I can't because of the medication they put me on. I've tried. I think they're just afraid that with all of my qualifications I'll end up getting their jobs from them. *sighs* I don't care about THEIR job. I just need A job.

Re: the Kanye West fracas on the Today show...this was posted on theSuperficial.com:

"if people had any taste in music, Kanye would be driving a bus."

and this....

"when will this fucker slit his wrists, starve and poison himself, set himself on fire, jump of a fucking cliff, pop a cap in his goddamn head and stand in front of a semi? Of course, he'll survive it all and blame his actions on 'the man' keeping him down. Fuck you, West."

Can you imagine if Rasputin ever got the idea in his head to rap?

It would have been awesome. Or better than Kanye, in any case.

Books n Stuff

00:24 Nov 03 2010

I seem to be reading a lot of biographies lately. Currently I'm working my way through "Vincent Price, a Daughter's Biography" by Victoria Price. Fascinating account of her celebrated father's life. She really researched it well.

She shares something in common with Boris Karloff's daughter....the fact that their father's wives managed to almost totally squeeze them out of their father's lives. Ms Price describes her father as "helpless" against her stepmother's ways of controlling him and keeping her out of his life as much as possible. The stepmother was totally obsessed with being Mrs Vincent Price and did not take kindly to a young teenager hanging around the house.

Some good news thought. Her stepmother passed away, and Ms Price had some great quality time with her father in his last years. They spent a lot of time together and mended a lot of fences. Her book is very affectionate and not bitter at what might have been.

It always knocks me out that parents sometimes choose their mate over their children and totally shut them out of their lives. It scars them incredibly.

I don't ever understand the step parent being jealous of the husband's children.

Sounds alot like Mommie Dearest and the book Bette Davis's daughter wrote about their lives. Sad, but very interesting to read.

I know how that feels. I'm glad she got to spend what time she did with her father. It's a pleasant thought, in a morbid way, that hasn't occurred to me. . . .

That's what my father and stepmother did. He still won't talk to me because he's not "allowed" to. Aint that some shit?
